Spring Is Here: 3 Tips To Get Your Commercial Roof Ready For The Rain

After I moved into my new home, I realized that there was a serious problem with the roof. There were some shingles missing, and there were large sections that were allowing water to come into the home. I was really discouraged about the problem, so I talked with my family and friends about finding a roofer that could take care of the job. They were able to find me an incredible professional that worked hard to take care of the issue, and it was really nice to see how great of a job he did. This blog is all about getting your roof repaired correctly the first time around.

Spring Is Here: 3 Tips To Get Your Commercial Roof Ready For The Rain

If you have a commercial building, you need to ensure your roof is ready for the spring rains. This is especially true if your roof is older. Before anything happens, below are three tips so your roof will stand up no matter how much it rains.

Prevent Leaks

The main thing to be concerned with during the rainy season is leaks. Even small problems can lead to a leaky roof. For example, if you have any shingles that are loose, water can easily get under the shingles and then into your building. If there are only a few loose shingles, they can be secured using roofing nails. If there are damaged shingles these should be replaced.

Check all protrusions from the roof, such as a skylight, chimney, etc., to ensure they are well sealed. If not, you can place new sealant around the protrusions to cover any type of opening.

If there is a lot of loose or damaged shingles, you should consider replacing the roof with a new one.

Trim Trees

Go outside and look at the trees close to your roof. If you see any that are overhanging on the roof, branches may break off and then hit the roof. Because it is spring your trees may not be completely developed yet so consider what they will look like once they get growth on them.

Hire a tree trimming company to trim trees if needed. Do not try to do this yourself as if you do it in the wrong way you will end up causing more damage to your roof.

Clean the Roof

Cleaning the roof can also help keep it in good condition. First, remove debris that may be on the roof, such as leaves, twigs, and more. Once you do this, inspect the gutter system. If it is filled with leaves or other debris, you need to clean the gutters out.  You can do this manually using a small hand shovel or use a garden hose to flush the debris out. This is important because if you do not clean the gutters water will build up in them. Once this happens the gutters will become heavy and start to fall. Water will also get under your roofing system and into your building.

The best thing you can do is to hire a roofing contractor to inspect your roof for you. Make sure you hire a commercial roofing company and not a residential roofing company, however. This is because commercial roofs are much different when compared to residential roofing. The roofing contractor can inspect your roof much better than you can as they know what problems to look for. Contact a company, like Durafoam Roofing LLC , for more help.
