Addressing Common Concerns Prior To Metal Roof Installation

After I moved into my new home, I realized that there was a serious problem with the roof. There were some shingles missing, and there were large sections that were allowing water to come into the home. I was really discouraged about the problem, so I talked with my family and friends about finding a roofer that could take care of the job. They were able to find me an incredible professional that worked hard to take care of the issue, and it was really nice to see how great of a job he did. This blog is all about getting your roof repaired correctly the first time around.

Addressing Common Concerns Prior To Metal Roof Installation

Metal roofs are seemingly everywhere these days. More and more roofing companies are installing them, and homeowners are increasingly choosing them. But if you need a new roof, you may not be sold on metal quite yet. If you have one or more of the following concerns about metal roofing, you're not alone. The good news is that most of these concerns are either unfounded or fairly easy to address.

Concern #1: Metal roofs will be noisy when it rains.

Water falling on metal does make quite a lot of noise. So, it is normal to be concerned that a metal roof would be noisy during a rainstorm. Luckily, modern metal roofing is made with a solid layer of insulation. This insulation not only blocks the transfer of heat but also the transfer of noise. If you stand up in the attic during a storm, you'll hear the rain on the roof, but this is the case with almost any roof material. In the main area of your home, rain on a properly insulated metal roof should not sound any louder than rain on a shingle or tile roof.

Concern #2: The roof will get hot and raise your AC bills.

Metal is a good conductor and will get hot when light shines on it. But roofers generally coat metal roofs in reflective coatings to minimize this effect. In fact, metal roofs often reflect so much sunlight that they keep your attic cooler and lower your AC bills in comparison to other, darker roof materials. This makes metal roofs a good choice in sunny climates.

Concern #3: Metal roofs are too heavy for your home.

Metal roofing may be a little heavier than shingle roofing, but it's far from being the heaviest roof material. Tile roofing weighs more, and so does slate roofing. Most homes can support a metal roof, but if your home is not designed to support this weight, a roofer can usually make a few changes to correct that. They may just need to add a few reinforcement connections or a thicker roof deck. Weight restrictions rarely, if ever, prevent someone from being able to have a metal roof put on their home.

Metal roofing is becoming popular for good reasons. It lasts a long time, keeps your home cool, and looks modern and sleek. For more information about roof replacement, contact a company in your area.
